The duty cycle is an important specification of welding machines. It describes how long the device can be operated within a specified period without overheating. Proper attention to the duty cycle protects your RED by Lorch device from thermal overload and extends its service life.
Meaning of the Duty Cycle
The duty cycle is based on a 10-minute work cycle.
A duty cycle of 60% means that the device must weld for 6 minutes and then cool down for 4 minutes.
If the permissible duty cycle is exceeded, thermal overload can occur.
Behaviour in Case of Overheating
When the maximum temperature is reached,
the active welding process is automatically interrupted,
an error message appears on the control panel,
and the device switches to protection mode.
As soon as the device has sufficiently cooled down, the message is automatically cleared and normal operation can be resumed.
Notes
Make sure to know the duty cycle of your RED welding machine – it is specified in the technical data.
High ambient temperatures or blocked ventilation slots can extend the cooling time.
Repeated overheating can shorten the lifespan of electronic components.
