AntiStick is a feature of modern electrode welding machines (also known as MMA or manual metal arc welding machines) that prevents the electrode from sticking to the workpiece during welding.
How it works:
During electrode welding, it can happen that the electrode sticks to the workpiece.
In this case, the electrode can "stick fast" and burn out.
The AntiStick control detects this situation and automatically reduces the welding current to a minimum or switches it off completely for a short moment. This interrupts the power supply before the electrode can burn on. The electrode can thus be easily detached from the workpiece without damaging the electrode holder.
Advantages:
Increased user-friendliness: Especially helpful for beginners, as accidental sticking of the electrode is less frustrating.
Protection of the workpiece and electrode: Prevents damage caused by excessive current flow when sticking occurs.
Time-saving: Interruptions caused by stuck electrodes are minimised, improving workflow.
-
Preservation of the welding machine: By avoiding overcurrent, the welding machine’s electronics are relieved.
Application area:
AntiStick is particularly relevant for welding with electrodes (MMA).
