Can you TIG weld with the RED MIG 210 SYN?
Yes, it is possible. The MIG 210 Syn from RED by Lorch is primarily designed as a MIG/MAG machine, but it also supports TIG and electrode welding. It is therefore well suited for simple TIG applications, provided you use the correct torch and connection.
How does it work?
The machine ignites the arc during TIG welding by Lift-TIG (contact ignition), which means briefly touching and lifting the electrode. The MIG 210 Syn does not support contactless HF ignition.
Important: The TIG torch is NOT operated via the Euro central connector
This is the most common stumbling block. A TIG torch with a Euro central connector will not work with this machine – no gas flows from the nozzle, and pressing the gas test button does not activate any valve. This is not a defect but is technically intended.
For TIG welding, you need instead:
- a TIG torch with a 13 mm plug and integrated gas valve
- connection of the torch to the negative terminal of the welding machine (the Euro central connector remains unused)
- the gas supply is provided directly at the pressure regulator of the gas cylinder and is manually controlled via the valve on the torch
Because the gas does not flow through the machine, the gas valve integrated into the machine deliberately does not switch in TIG mode – the gas test button therefore has no function here.

What you need for this
- TIG torch with 13 mm plug and integrated gas valve (not included). A suitable model from Lorch is the LTV 1700.
- Shielding gas for the TIG process – this must be considered separately and usually differs from MIG/MAG operation.
- TIG welding filler (welding rods) – suitable for the material, required separately.
Limitations
The MIG 210 Syn ignites exclusively by Lift-TIG, not by HF. This is perfectly adequate for occasional TIG work. However, if you want to weld predominantly with the TIG process, we recommend our dedicated TIG machine, the TIG 180 DC.
Detailed information about the machine’s functions, commissioning, safety and maintenance can be found in the "Usage" category as well as in the user manual for the RED by Lorch MIG 210 Syn welding machine.
