An unstable arc while welding can have various causes – from worn consumables to uneven wire feed, as well as work technique or earth contact problems.
Possible Causes and Solutions
Contact tip is worn or does not match the wire diameter (when MIG-MAG welding)
Solution: Check and replace if necessary.Wire feed irregular
Solution: See article Wire feed irregular or completely failed, wire electrode sticking to the contact tip.Incorrect work technique
Solution: Correct work technique (e.g. bring the torch closer to the workpiece).-
No or poor earth contact
Solution:Attach the earth clamp to a clean, conductive spot on the workpiece or in its immediate vicinity
Secure the earth cable plug on the machine by turning it clockwise until it stops
